Summary: In April 2024, the United States Department of Education released updated regulations for Title IX, the federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in schools that receive federal funding. The last time regulations were updated was 2020. The amended 2024 Title IX regulations allow for increased flexibility and informality in handling sex discrimination complaints in schools. The Board of Education is asked to temporarily approve the modifications to the following policies on emergency reading: Board Policy AC, Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity---Emergency Reading; Board Policy AC-R-1,Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity---Repealed; New Board Policy AC-R-1, Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity---Emergency Reading; Board Policy AC-R-2,Sexual Harassment Investigation Procedures (Recoded AC-R-3); New Board Policy AC-R-2, Harassment and Discrimination Investigation Procedures for Employees, Applicants for Employment and Members of the Public---Emergency Reading; Board Policy AC-E-1, Notice of Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity---Emergency Reading; Board Policy AC-R-3, Sex-based Harassment Investigation Procedures---Emergency Reading (Recoded and Renamed); Board Policy GBAA, Sex-based Harassment---Emergency Reading; and Board Policy JBB, Sex-based Harassment---Emergency Reading.
