DECEMBER 2, 2024 NATIONAL SPECIAL EDUCATION DAY
WHEREAS, the inherent dignity and worth of every individual are fundamental principles that guide our nation; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and celebrating the unique abilities and potential of individuals with disabilities is crucial for fostering an inclusive society; and
WHEREAS, December 2 marks a day of reflection and action, dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of special education and the rights of individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), signed into law on December 2, 1975, has been a cornerstone in ensuring that all children with disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education; and
WHEREAS, National Special Education Day serves as an opportunity to honor the contributions of educators, parents, advocates, and all those who work tirelessly to empower individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, through the tireless efforts of many, progress continues to be made towards creating an inclusive and equitable educational environment for individuals of all abilities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Pueblo School District No. 60 Board of Education does hereby proclaim December 2, 2024 as National Special Education Day.
On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting awareness, understanding, and acceptance of individuals with disabilities. Let us recognize and celebrate the achievements of those who champion the cause of special education and advocate for the rights and dignity of every person.
