The Board of Education is asked to adopt the 2023 Mental Health Awareness Month Resolution. As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, this Resolution acknowledges the importance of good mental health to student success and to life success. It also acknowledges the hard work of the many mental health support personnel in Pueblo School District No. 60. Mental Health Awareness Month Resolution May 2023 WHEREAS, mental health is critical for the well-being and vitality of our families, businesses, and community; and WHEREAS, mental health disorders collectively make mental illness the most prevalent health problem in America today- more common than cancer, lung, and heart diseases combined; and WHEREAS, severe emotional disorders will strike one in four Americans every year regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or economic status; and WHEREAS, one in five children suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder and one in ten have a serious disorder which, if left untreated, can lead to school failure, juvenile delinquency, substance abuse, and suicide; and WHEREAS, Pueblo School District 60 devotes substantial resources and personnel to mental health including counselors, student success advocates, school psychologists, community advocates, behavior advocates, school nurses and social workers; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Pueblo School District No. 60 Board of Education does hereby proclaim the month of May 2023 as “Mental Health Awareness Month” and encourages students, parents, teachers, support staff and school administrators to increase their awareness and understanding about the benefits and importance of good mental health. |
